What a great turnout! More than double the number of participants from last year. And visitors (racers, volunteers, and spectators) came from more than 4 different states!

Free concert 9 sep 22!

Many concertgoers gathered on the farm for our free concert. Feedback from guests was very positive. Fun to hear some local bands, and Mitch McVicker, the main artist, entertained everyone with his unique gift of making music with the most unlikely household objects!

Here are some photos from the evening:

about ciderman

Fall is a time for changing leaves, sweaters, and fall produce, like apples!

We are Buttercup Ranch & Creamery, and we are all about learning and teaching people to do things for themselves, especially natural, healthy eating.

For years we have gotten together with family and friends to play games, visit, and make homemade apple cider. Everyone brings apples, gets a turn cranking the cider press, and out comes yummy cider.

So in remembrance of this time-honored event, we call our triathlon, the CiderMan Sprint Triathlon.

9-11 Remembrance

Our first CiderMan Triathlon was on the 20 year anniversary of 9-11, so we held it in memory of John Ogonowski, the pilot of American Airlines Flight 11 that was hijacked and flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

John Ogonowski, American Airlines Flight 11 Pilot

Rich MacKeen, the co-owner of Buttercup Ranch & Creamery, is a retired Air Force pilot who flew with John’s brother, Jim (“Ogi”).

John was also an avid farmer, who raised hay, corn, pumpkins, blueberries, and peaches in Massachusetts. Jim now runs the family farm.

Buttercup Ranch & Creamery feels a strong connection to the Ogonowski family due to their service and sacrifice, and also their passion for sustainable agriculture, and that is why we are honoring them in this event.

20% of Entry Fees will be donated to Local First Responders

course details

You will start at our lake with a rolling start. You will swim a 500m course, then return to the starting shoreline to grab your bike (there will be a bike stand area).

The bike course will be 20 km in the outskirts of Millstadt, and then you will ride back to the initial transition area to begin your 5 km run, again through the streets of Millstadt.*

The Swim

Note: This year this is not a USA Triathlon sanctioned event in order to keep the costs down for you. If you participate, and next year want us to be sanctioned, let us know. If there is enough interest, we will seek USAT sanctioning. We will still be using USAT rules and criteria this year.

Note 2: Right now our lake water is good, but we will have it tested one week prior to the event to ensure that it is safe for swimming. If it is not, we will automatically revert to a Duathlon with additional 5km run. If this happens, we will not give refunds.
