Lots of options! Sprint triathlon (individual or relay), swim or paddle (bring your own vessel…anything that can be propelled with a paddle), aquabike, duathlon, or individual 5k run or 20k bike!

Fall is a time for changing leaves, fuzzy sweaters, and crisp apples!
We are Buttercup Ranch & Creamery, and we are all about learning and teaching people to do things for themselves, especially natural, healthy eating.
For years we have gotten together with family and friends to play games, visit, and make homemade fresh apple cider. Everyone brings apples, gets a turn cranking the cider press, and then out comes yummy cider.
So, in remembrance of this time-honored event, we call our triathlon, the CiderMan Sprint Triathlon.
9-11 Remembrance
Because our first CiderMan Sprint Triathlon was on the 20-year anniversary of 9-11, we held it in memory of John Ogonowski, the captain of American Airlines Flight 11.
Rich MacKeen, the co-owner of Buttercup Ranch & Creamery, is a retired Air Force pilot who flew with John’s brother, Jim (“Ogi”).
John was also an avid farmer, who raised hay, corn, pumpkins, blueberries, and peaches in Massachusetts. Jim now runs the family farm.
Buttercup Ranch & Creamery feels a strong connection to the Ogonowski family due to their service and sacrifice, and also their passion for sustainable agriculture. Therefore, we are honoring them in this event.

course details
You will start our sprint triathlon at our lake with a rolling start. You will swim a 500m course, then return to the starting shoreline to grab your bike (there will be a bike stand area).
The bike course will be 20 km in the outskirts of Millstadt, and after your return to the transition area, you will begin your 5 km run, again through the outskirts of Millstadt. Finish will be back at the event tent area. *

Note 1: We are now USA Triathlon sanctioned! We have reduced the price of the Individual Triathlon category from $75 to $65 (after August 21, 2025, price will increase to $75). You will need to sign up with USA Triathlon – they have a one-day event membership for a sprint triathlon for $14, or you can also sign up for various annual memberships. The youth and young adult memberships are less expensive than adult ones. Go to USA Triathlon | Membership for more information.
Note 2: Our lake water is tested to ensure that it is safe for swimming.

*If enough people sign up over the age of 70, we will add more categories
RELAY (No Age Categories)
Love to run, but can’t swim? Grab a friend, family member, or stranger off the street, and form a relay team! Any age or gender combination. Two or three members allowed.

Overall Men’s and Women’s Triathlon (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
Master’s (age 55+) Men’s and Women’s Triathlon (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
Triathlon (Swim-Bike-Run) – 1st, 2nd, 3rd for each age category, Men’s and Women’s.
Triathlon (Paddle-Bike-Run) – 1st, 2nd, 3rd for each age category, Men’s and Women’s. Not eligible for Overall and Masters.
Relay – 1st, 2nd, 3rd – Men’s, Women’s, Mixed. No age categories. Not eligible for Overall and Master’s.
Duathlon – 1st, 2nd, 3rd for each age category, Men’s and Women’s. Not eligible for Overall and Masters.
